Coronation Street star almost misses TV appearance after toilet blunder

Former Coronation Street star Shobna Gulati was left feeling embarrassed after almost missing her appearance of Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch after becoming stuck in a toilet.

The Sunita Alahan actress joined Steph McGovern for Thursday’s show but had to be freed by fellow soap star Hayley Tamaddon after she became stuck.

The pair were on the daytime chatshow to discuss their current tour of hit musical, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

Hayley couldn’t help but share the story with Steph during the programme as she explained: “Do you know she got locked in your toilet earlier today, we’ve had a great morning honestly.

“She got locked in the loo, it was brilliant, we’re lucky she’s here. I had to use a credit card to unlock it.”

Hayley also shared the clip she filmed of the incident on her Instagram account.

“Have you locked yourself in, Shobna?” Hayley can be heard asking as the actress laughs from the locked toilet.

Hayley then reassured her friend by admitting: “Wait a minute, I’m videoing this because this is an epic ending.”

Quick-thinking Hayley followed this by grabbing a card to prise open the lock from the other side, which thankfully worked.

“I’ve done it!” Hayley exclaimed as the lock eventually turned, freeing Shobna.

“Did you open it?” The actress asked as she finally emerged from the toilet.

Hayley captioned the clip: “Our day just gets better and better.”

She later posted a snap of the pair and wrote: “In true friendship fashion…

“@ShobnaGulati has dressed like me so I don’t feel ridiculous. And now we’re ready to go do the YMCA.”

The two were sorting matching black outfits, with Hayley opting for a glitzy top while Shobna donned an all-leather outfit.

Shobna portrayed Weatherfield favourite Sunita on Coronation Street from 2001 to 2013.

The 57-year-old has also appeared in various other TV classics, initially finding fame on BBC sitcom Dinnerladies.

Steph’s Packed Lunch airs weekdays from 12pm o Channel 4.
