LadBaby quits Christmas number one race after five hit singles and beating The Beatles record | The Sun

FESTIVE chart-toppers LadBaby have pulled out of the race for Christmas number one.

The fan-favourite group are none other than social media star Mark Hoyle and his wife Roxanne – also known as LadBaby and LadBaby Mum.

LadBaby has landed five Christmas number one tracks, with catchy tunes including Sausage Rolls For Everyone, Food Aid, and Don't Stop Me Eating.

The duo began their festive chart domination with We Built This City On Sausage Rolls back in 2018.

Yet last year, they made chart history by securing the top spot for a fifth consecutive year – surpassing a record set by The Beatles in the 1960s – with Food Aid.

This was a rework of the classical festive Band Aid song Do They Know It’s Christmas?

In true LadBaby style, they created a Christmas hit with a twist – with the lyrics referring to the current ongoing cost of living crisis.

YouTuber Mark has now told how they will "pass the baton on" for a new artist to claim the 2023 top spot.

He told Metro: "After five amazing years we’ve decided to pass the baton over to the Great British public and we’re not going for Christmas number one this year.

"We never expected it to be five, I’ll be totally honest.

"It’s one of those things that just happened over the years and we thought it was amazing that the public got behind us in the way that they did.

"Five years ago when we started this, we knew the importance of food banks in this country and we wanted to raise funds and awareness for that so we did that one song, that was lovely."

Their tracks raised proceeds for The Trussell Trust, a charity that works to end the need for food banks in the UK.

Hot on LadBaby's heels in the race for Christmas number one last year was the festive favourite Last Christmas by Wham.

The Sidemen were close behind with their festive single Christmas Drillings – surpassing Mariah Carey, Ed Sheeran and Elton John.

It seems the duo might now be in for a career change – after we exclusively reported this month how they impressed This Morning TV bosses during a stint on Lorraine.

The vloggers currently have 1.13 million subscribers on YouTube.

They also have a further 3.5 million followers on TikTok.

A source said: "It's early days but LadBaby have officially entered into talks with ITV about joining the This Morning family on a permanent basis."
