Strictly fans so happy as Amy Dowden returns to show amid cancer battle
Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden delighted fans during Saturday’s live show as she took a break from her gruelling cancer treatment to step into the studio and cheer her on her co-stars.
Dressed in a stunning pink dress and sporting her stylish wig, Amy, 33, looked phenomenal as she smiled from ear to ear while engaging with banter backstage with her Strictly pals.
Taking to social media, viewers at home shared their joy at seeing her again, with one writing: "It’s so lovely to see you where you belong on a Saturday night. Keep going girl. "
Another said: "Love seeing Amy there supporting all her friends in the cast despite what she’s going through. She's incredible." A third added: "So happy Amy is there again this week."
It comes just weeks after her first appearance on the show, where she was invited to read the terms and conditions.
During an appearance on Loose Women on Friday, Amy revealed that the BBC show "had saved her life”.
While speaking to the panel, she said that being paired with Tom Fletcher previously had lead to a close friendship with his wife Giovanna – someone that had prompted her to check her breasts, and ultimately saw her discover a lump.
She said: “The day before I went on my honeymoon, I found a lump on my breast. But I'd only recently started checking my breasts.
“I went on the CoppaFeel! trek with Giovanna when I was partnered with Tom Fletcher – and that's the wonderful thing about Strictly, is the friendship it creates. The Fletchers welcomed me into their family. Later that year, I went on a trek with G and whilst I was on the trek, I was with ladies who were telling me their stories."
She continued: “Some of them were walking because they've been through breast cancer or they were walking for somebody else and their ages were very similar to mine and I was thinking, ‘Hang on I'm here raising awareness and I don't even check myself’, so potentially CoppaFeel! and the Fletchers, and Strictly partnering me with the Fletchers, has now saved my life.”
Amy hasn't been able to take part in this year's series due to being diagnosed with breast cancer in May.
She has already undergone a mastectomy and is currently receiving chemotherapy treatment.
In June, she was told her cancer had spread after doctors discovered more tumours and another type of cancer in her body.
