Tyrone and Evelyn rocked as they get a call from police in Coronation Street

Since Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) arrived in Coronation Street and revealed to Tyrone (Alan Halsall) that she’s his biological mum, the kind-hearted mechanic has been doing his best to see the best side of her.

Cassie is a drug addict and despite her mum Evelyn (Maureen Lipman)’s efforts to help her get clean she’s relapsed several times.

She genuinely does want to get to know her grandchildren Hope (Isabella Flanagan) and Ruby (Billie Naylor), and make amends to Tyrone for all the years he believed she was dead, but her chaotic past as a drug user keeps getting in her way. Evelyn has repeatedly warned Tyrone that he’s being naive for trusting his mum.

‘Tyrone always likes to try and see the best in people and generally gets hurt by it,’ Alan Halsall told us. ‘But he’s just found out at the age of 40 that his mum is alive and she’s right here and of course he wants to get to know her and everything else and has kind of dismissed all the warnings that he’s been given by Evelyn etc. He has dismissed it because his heart’s telling him that that’s his mum and he wants a relationship.

‘He really wants it to work more than anything and therefore he’s willing to dismiss things because he kind of needs it or wants it so badly to work.’

Having previously found Cassie collapsed in the street from an overdose, in upcoming episodes Tyrone and Evelyn get some concerning news about her.

She’s been trying to make a go of things after Kevin (Michael Le Vell) offered her a job at the garage, but she’s not exactly good for business. When the owner of a local cab firm calls in at the garage saying she’s looking for someone to service her fleet, Cassie ruins what could potentially be a lucrative job by revealing that Abi (Sally Carman)’s been in prison and both she and Abi are recovering drug addicts.

Kevin is not best pleased.

Following this, a contrite Cassie tells Tyrone she’s going to a meeting to support her recovery. But when he gets a phone call from the police, he’s shocked.
