Victoria Beckham recalls hurtful chant and death threats in new documentary
‘BECKHAM’ documentary series: official trailer
It wasn’t all glitz and glamour being married to one of the UK’s most famous football players.
Victoria Beckham has recalled the terrifying moment thousands of rowdy football fans sang a sexually explicit chant about her as she supported her now-husband, David Beckham on the pitch.
Victoria’s name would often pop up in football chants throughout the late Nineties thanks to her romance with the Manchester United alum.
Speaking in a new Netflix documentary, Beckham, the former Spice Girls singer, 49, reveals her awkward reaction to the bawdy chants from a woman, who was sitting next to her inside the football stadium.
While she admitted she laughed during the incident at one point, she said the cruel taunts from football fans felt “hurtful” and “embarrassing” at the time.

David was playing for Manchester United and rival football fans would often take aim at Victoria in the terraces with X-rated chants about the Spice Girl as she cheered him on at Old Trafford.
The chants would often leave Victoria feeling uncomfortable but nevertheless, she would still turn up to support David from the sidelines.
She went on to say: “I remember sitting down and the lady next to me turned to me and didn’t know what to say, and said, ‘Do you want a Polo?’
“Do I want a Polo? We did not know what to do. It felt like we were drowning.”

Speaking in a confessional, Victoria explained: “The fact I went to the games really was just to kind of, some would say ‘stalk’ him. I would say see him.”
She then recalled what drew her to David in the first place, adding: “When I saw him in the footballer’s lounge, all of the other footballers were at the bar but he was standing talking to his parents.
“And I’m very close to my family and I loved that side to him,” she went on to say.
The screen then flicks to David speaking in his own confessional, where he recounted his first meeting with Victoria as she admitted: “I just fancied her.”
Beckham is available to stream on Netflix now.
