Amy Dowden ‘not looking forward to birthday’ as she shares one wish in brave cancer battle
Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has opened up about marking her 33rd birthday amid her breast cancer battle.
The professional dancer shared that she had been diagnosed with grade 3 breast cancer back in May, and has now discussed her ongoing health battle and how it had let to her not looking forward to her birthday.
Taking to Instagram, Amy shared a photo of her twin sister, wishing her a happy birthday, before going on to explain that she had not been looking forward to her own birthday on Thursday 10 August.
She wrote: "I wasn’t looking forward to this birthday. At the moment any milestone or event is a bigger reminder and hurts.
"Im far from what I should and normally doing, in the rehearsal room with my strictly family. But all your wishes this morning have certainly cheered me up."
She then encouraged her followers to check their own breasts, writing: "This year my birthday wish is for all to take the time to check themselves! @coppafeelpeople have so many useful resources [prayer hands emoji] [heart emoji]!
"Doesn’t take long! That’s my birthday wish! Thank you so much again for all the love and support it really does help and mean so much to me. Welsh love Amy x [four hearts emoji] #checkyourlemons"
Fans were quick to share their support of the dancer, with one writing: "You deserve every compliment Amy. You are such a lovely woman! Make the best of it and do not forget you are loved by many unknown supportive souls."

While a third penned: "Sending you lots of love and get well soon wishes on your birthday, Amy! Happy Birthday Amy and Becky!"
Amy has been open about her cancer battle on social media and recently shared that she “burst into tears” when she arrived for chemotherapy treatment.
Sharing some snaps from hospital, she wrote: "Chemo 1 done! I looked worse going in than coming out actually.
"I didn’t sleep, I got there and I just burst into tears, luckily my pink sister made sure I walked in and helped me through it and distracted from the brain freeze of the cold cap…
"I’ve left knowing chemo 1 done and not as bad as I thought. This is due to the incredible team and nurses! Thank you NHS! Hopefully not too many side affects.
"One step closer to being back on the dance floor. (That’s what’s hurting the most right now, I’d do anything to be there with my fellow pros right now). But for now chemo 1."
