Michael Parkinson has died at the age of 88.
A statement from his family said today: “After a brief illness Sir Michael Parkinsson passed away peacefully at home last night in the company of his family.
“The family request that they are given privacy at this time.”
The veteran broadcaster interviewed some of the biggest names in showbusiness over his long career, including Fred Astaire, Lauren Bacall and Ingrid Bergmann.
He became a familiar face on both the BBC and ITV for his candid and honest interviews, most notably Parkinson on the former channel.
