Jonnie Irwin praised for powering through setbacks amid huge project
Jonnie Irwin has given fans an update on his latest project – and things aren’t exactly going smoothly.
The A Place in the Sun presenter, 49, has been tackling a series of home renovation projects to transform his Newcastle abode over recent months.
However, the weather hasn’t been on his side.
Taking to social media, the Escape to the Country star posed for a selfie as he refused to let his terminal cancer diagnosis hold him back.
Jonnie snapped himself working on his roof, holding a piece of wood, AirPods in his ears as he powered through the rain.
‘It seems like every time we do any roof related work it smashed down with rain!’, he quipped.
On how his wife is getting stuck in too, Jonnie added: Jess is underneath with buckets and I’m trying in vain to seal from above.’
‘Oh the joys of renovating!’, he quipped.
Taking to the comments, Jonnie’s followers were full of words of encouragement.
‘You never give up so keep going!’, one wrote.
Another wrote: ‘You’re smashing it fella keep going 🔥👏👏’
‘Strong as ever and extremely handsome ! Keep strong 💪’, one commented.
Jonnie has been documenting his home renovations since the start, getting his followers’ opinions and sharing plenty of before and afters.
Understandably, fans have been amazed at his work ethic as Jonnie works hard on building a dream home for his family in spite of his illness.
The TV star revealed his terminal cancer diagnosis in November last year, after a tumour in his lung spread to his brain.
Jonnie lives in his property in the northeast with his wife and three young sons: Rex, four, and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac.
While Jess has been by his side throughout his cancer treatment, Jonnie decided not to tell his boys to avoid ‘confusing’ them.
Instead, Jonnie is focused on making as many memories as possible as he lives out his final moments with no idea how long he has to live.

The property expert has already defied expectations, as doctors previously didn’t think he would live until 2023.
However, he was there when Rex marked the huge milestone of starting primary school in September, and enjoyed a relaxing holiday with his brood in summer.
In terms of his career, while he’s taking things at a much slower pace now his cancer is ‘on the move’, Jonnie has remained active.
He attended the A Place in the Sun’s live event in Birmingham this month, attracting a huge crowd to his chat with co-star Jasmine Harman.
Jonnie later appeared on screens in a pre-recorded episode of BBC’s Escape to the Country, which saw him travel to Somerset to help a retired couple find the perfect property.
The episode pulled a massive audience, with Jonnie revealing on Instagram his shock over the numbers.
Sharing a shot of himself with the crew on location, he wrote: ‘Just been told about the overnight viewing figures from our show on Monday; 22% audience share, 1 million viewers and slot winner!
‘Well done to all of our team on @escape_country and thanks to you so much for watching, I must admit we had a lot of fun filming this episode.’
