Blazin Squad say band is now side hustle and they pay bills with real jobs

Blazin' Squad stars Spike-E and Melo-D revealed the band is more of a "side hustle" these days.

After shooting to fame in the noughties, the band have been busy going back to "normal jobs" in order to "pay their bills".

Nowadays, there are four out of 10 original members still left performing in the band, which are Spike E and Melo D, real names Sam Foulkes and Chris McKeckney, along with Love Island star Marcel Sommerville (Rocky B) and Ollie Georgiou (Freek).

The group are well known for their hits such as Crossroads and Flip Reverse which came out during their four-year chart reign.

Though the band knew things were coming to an end when new bands as the time burst onto the scene such as McFly and Busted.

Sam said: "When I saw them perform and hear the crowds cheer for them on stage, I knew it was time to start handing my CV out."

Chris added then it was more of a "side hustle" and a "hobby" now as they now pay their bills with "normal jobs".

Baby-faced Sam went to work in an office and Chris went into music royalties before turning to help run a security business with his pal.

Sam added: "When it all came to an end we all went and got normal jobs. When you're doing something like this not everyone will have a chance to stay famous and sometimes the fame is just short-lived.

"For a boyband like us in our day, our longevity was about three-four years, whereas nowadays I'd say it's far less. And my biggest advice is, when you come down, go and get a normal job.

"You need to appreciate what you've done but don't dwell on being down too long as that will make you feel sad.

"The best thing you can do is get a normal job because no one cares… When I walked into my first office job, a few people asked if I was Blazin' Squad and they asked me a few questions and that was it."

Chris interjected: "We all got normal jobs very quickly. My first job after Squad was still in the music industry, I was working with a music royalty company.

"Where I was an artist receiving them, I was then sending them out instead and Marcel came and worked with me there.

"Now, I work with an old school friend of mine, it's just the two of us. It's his business and it's a security alarm company which is quite cool now, as again when I was doing Squad stuff which is quite cool because I'm working with mates again."

Sam then explained: "A couple of the others started doing music and were successful producers after but some of us just went and done normal jobs and we just did what had to be done.

"Life happens, you have to have a job and we had bills to pay.

"But all of us are now in a good stage in life, we've all got our own house, we've gained from it and just have to do our day-to-day jobs like everyone else."

The band will be hitting up Reminisce Festival which is taking place on Saturday, September 9, at Sheardley Park, St Helens, Liverpool. Fans can find tickets here.
