BBC Radio 1 star says goodbye as she quits show after two years

Clara Amfo has revealed she’s leaving her BBC Radio 1 show Future Sounds after two years of presenting it. She began hosting the show in 2021 but made the decision to exit and will be replaced by Chart Show host Jack Saunders from April onwards.

But the 39-year-old isn’t leaving the BBC completely as she will continue to work on special programmes, as well as a new Sounds show. The presenter took to Instagram to share the news with her 298,000 followers as she shared a picture of herself sat in her seat at the radio station.

She penned: “The face of a woman trying to keep a secret/make big decisions, whew! With immense gratitude and thought given, I have made the choice to say goodbye to Future Sounds on @bbcradio1.

“I’ll save the long paragraphs (cos you know I love ’em!) for my final show but for now, I will say…. I’m so proud of the work I’ve been able to do on every type of show over the years from the 8th floor, up and down UK and random pop stars houses!” (sic)

The television personality went on to thank her listeners for taking the time to listen to her show each time and for all of the production teams she’s been able to work with.

She continued: “I’m so honoured by the incredible artists and their hardworking teams who have chosen the show to share their work and intimate thoughts, constantly providing one of the most precious things we all need to keep going in this wild world.

“I’m energised and excited for my next chapter as part of the network and beyond. See you at 6pm. Clara X,” she signed off.

Clara’s celebrity pals rushed to the comment section to share their well-wishes for her as she ventures into the next chapter of her life.

Fellow radio personality Greg James wrote: “Love yeeeeeeeeeew,” alongside a red heart emoji,” and Zoe Ball wrote: “Oh Clara new adventures ahead. Huge love to you goddess x.”

Angela Scanlon said: “Yes babs!! Up up and away xx,” while Claudia Winkleman showed her support with four red heart emojis.

Clara has made a name for herself in the presenting world with her hosting duties on The Official Chart on BBC Radio 1, the Live Lounge and presenting backstage at the BRIT Awards for ITV2.

Her television appearances include Celebrity Gogglebox alongside her brother Andy, as well as starring on The Weakest Link and RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs the World.

She was also contestant on the eighteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing, dancing with professional Aljaz Skorjanec.
