Gregg Wallace addresses Inside the Factory departure after sudden exit
Gregg Wallace on why he left his BBC Inside the Factory
Gregg Wallace addressed his departure from the BBC series Inside the Factory after claims there was an “inappropriate incident” which he claimed was down to “inaccurate” reporting.
The MasterChef host joined Good Morning Britain presenters Kate Garraway and Richard Madeley to discuss the latest series of Celebrity MasterChef.
Before ending their conversation, Richard asked: “One thing that I do want to clear up with you because it was all over the papers last month.
“You had this really successful BBC series, Inside the Factory, you did seven didn’t you? And then you announced you were leaving it because you wanted to spend more time with your little boy.
“But then it emerged, well it was sort of leaked that your bosses had actually called you in for what was alleged to be inappropriate remarks to the women working in the Nestle factory in York.

“Papers like the Times, the Mail and the Mirror said that is why you left, and you said it wasn’t so do you want to just clear that up?”
Explaining what had happened, Gregg said: “I left. I have got a little boy called Sid who at the moment is non-verbal, he is still in nappies.
“He has got learning difficulties, I am an ambassador now for Ambitious about Autism, mum needed help there.
“There was an argument inside the factory, the reporting isn’t accurate. There was an issue, I thought that is the perfect time to come out, offending people in the factory, no.

“If you look at the headlines you can’t see a story that matches those headlines, but there was an issue, I don’t want to discuss what the issue was but I thought that is a good time.
“Mum needs help with Sid at home, running around the country, this may be the time to give something up.”
Announcing his departure, Gregg told the BBC earlier this year: “As viewers know, to say I find the inside of factories fascinating is an understatement.
“I’ve never failed to be amazed by the scale of production. Whether it’s conveyor belts full of tiny sweets or a double-decker bus rolling out of the factory for the very first time.
“For me, filming the show alongside my other TV and family commitments has always been a balance.
“As my son Sid’s needs become more challenging, I’ve decided the time has come to hang up my hairnet.
“We’ve already filmed 12 future episodes so viewers can see me enjoying lots more factories in my hi-viz jacket for a while to come yet.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
