WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Sweet Magnolias.

Sweet Magnolia’s season three took some unexpected turns and now attention has turned to the heartwarming drama’s future.

The Netflix series made a comeback for its third outing which continued to follow the lives of lifelong friends Maddie Townsend (played JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue Sullivan (Brooke Elliott) and Helen Decatur (Heather Headley).

This time around, there was a happy ending with Dana and Ronnie Sullivan (Brandon Quinn) celebrating their vow renewal with their Serenity neighbors.

Maddie and Cal (Justin Bruening) decided to keep dating but slow down their romance to get to know each other better, whereas Helen is single after breaking up with Ryan (Michael Shenefelt) but could there still be a spark with Erik (Dion Johnstone)?

So there was plenty to keep fans wanting more, with many keen to know if a season four is on the cards.

Will there be a Sweet Magnolias season 4?

Sweet Magnolias returned for a third season on Thursday, July 20, but so far, Netflix hasn’t renewed the drama for series four.

Typically, Netflix announces the fate of its original shows within one month of its arrival on the streamer so an update could have been coming any day now.

However, this is less likely to be the case as it stands, thanks to the Writers’ Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA going on strike last month.

A large sector of actors and writers in Hollywood are currently not working on any new projects until negotiations are agreed, causing delays for shows like Sweet Magnolias.

Whenever the strikes conclude though, there are some positive signs pointing to the drama being greenlit for season four.

In the third series, Maddie hinted that she thought Helen was only pretending to be happy with Ryan, with her friend feeling Maddie was judging her, leading to a dispute.

While talking to Good Housekeeping, actress Swisher, prior to the writers’ strikes, said she thought there was more to delve into following their rift.

She said: “I think [the rift] adds a lot of depth to their friendship.

“The show literally celebrates this friendship between these three women. That is what this show is at the heart of it, and all that happens in between it …

“They’ve gone to hell and back with each other, and that type of relationship is very real and very relatable. I think that there’s still so much storytelling in that way.”

Another indication is the fact there is a lot of material Netflix could use for the plots.

Sweet Magnolias is based on the book series by author Sheryl Woods which is made up of a whopping 11 novels.

So if the streamer does decide to go ahead with a fourth season, it is safe to say there are lots of storylines it could focus on in future episodes.
