Strictlys Amy Dowden reveals she has blood clots as she returns home amid cancer battle

Strictly Come Dancing pro Amy Dowden has revealed that she has blood clots as she returned home amid her breast cancer battle.

The 33 year old ballroom star announced her diagnosis in May of this year, as doctors told her she had stage three breast cancer, but she vowed to "get back on that dance floor".

She has been bravely keeping her followers updated with her progress as she battles the disease, and on Wednesday, 23 August, she shared that she was going home.

Amy posted a snap to Instagram where she could be seen sitting in a hospital bed in soft grey pyjamas and a black cap as she put a thumbs up to the camera.

In the caption, she wrote: "And I’m going home to my own bed! Thanks again to the marvellous NHS! Got some blood clots but I’m feeling good other than a sore and swollen arm.

"Another hurdle along this journey. But again forever grateful to the nhs and my heroes around me. Can’t wait to get into my own bed since Monday though #nhs #canceryoung #chemotherapy #myownbed #nhsheroes."

Her Strictly Come Dancing pals headed up the well wishes, as pro dancer Gorka Marquez commented with a couple of red love heart emojis, before writing: "You got this @amy_dowden."

Strictly judge Motsi Mabuse added two red love hearts, whilst actress Emma Barton wrote: "You are amazing," with more love hearts.

TV presenter Gaby Roslin commented: "Sending so much love and sending healing thoughts, as TikTok star Harry Surplus said: "Thinking of you Amy. You are very brave [heart] x."

Just a few days ago, Amy opened up about her heartbreak as her hair started falling out as a result of her chemotherapy.

On Sunday, she wrote about her second round of chemotherapy treatment in a series of Instagram messages: “What I’ve found harder this time round and the last few days is the hair shredding. Even though I’m cold capping you hope to keep 50 per cent of your hair and there are also many benefits to the hair growing back quicker too.

“But as much as I prepared myself waking up everyday gently combing my hair with a wide comb and seeing what comes out, it is just heart-breaking personally for me. I’m only washing my hair once, max twice a week, not using any heat on my hair or styling it so I just don’t feel like me.”

Amy shared a video of the hair that had fallen out, writing: “The reality when I gently comb”, with a broken heart emoji.
