Ryanair trolls Ryan Gosling with perfect dig at easyJet lawsuit
Easy Life are being sued by easyJet because of their name, and now Ryanair has waded in on the action.
True to their social media team’s form, they’ve brought Ryan Gosling into the mix.
British band Easy Life, famed for hits like Nightmares and Ocean View, have taken to social media to explain their current situation which they ‘never imagined’ they’d be in.
Made up of Murray Matravers, Oliver Cassidy, Sam Hewitt, Lewis Alexander Berry, and Jordan Birtles, Easy Life are an alternative band with a dedicated fanbase of 174,000 Instagram followers. They formed in Leicester back in 2017.
So it must’ve come as a shock when – as claimed on the band’s official social media page – they were ‘sued’ by Europe-based airline easyJet over their name.
The alternative musicians said they found their situation ‘hilarious’ but they are ‘powerless’ against such a big corporation, and implied they may have to change their name to avoid a costly legal battle with the airline giant.
EasyJet are a budget airline based in London, and have 927 routes in more than 34 countries.
Taking to social media, the band began: ‘Okay… Never imagined having to do this but we’ve no choice but to address the situation we find ourselves in.
‘As some of you have already discovered, we are being sued. easyJet are suing us for being called Easy Life. They’re forcing us to change our name or take up a costly legal battle which we could never afford.
They continued: ‘We’ve worked hard to establish our brand and I’m certain in no way have we ever affected their business. Although we find the whole situation hilarious, we are virtually powerless against such a massive corporation.
‘I don’t really know what else to say, will keep you lot updated,’ they concluded, before adding a pretty funny jibe: ‘For those of you who bought gig tickets and ended up on a budget flight to Tenerife, I apologise. For the rest of you, thank you so much for your support.’
British rock band The Amazons commented on the name controversy with a very popular meme, which sees Homer Simpson disappearing backwards into a bush.
The jokes continued, as Ryanair then shared the statement from Easy Life, and wrote alongside it: ‘Ryan Gosling prep the cash.’
Nodding to the actor’s blockbuster role as Ken in the Barbie film, they added: ‘Hope you have kenough cash.’
EasyJet told NME in a statement the legal battle was in fact being carried out by EasyGroup, the company built to expand the ‘easy’ brand into the fields of hotels, supermarkets, financial services and more.
The statement read: ‘Stelios and easyGroup founded and (now) own the right to the easy brand name.
‘Other companies (including easyLife) pay annual royalties for its use as part of their business strategy.
‘We cannot allow unauthorised third parties to simply use it free, gratis and for nothing. That would be very unfair.’
