Piers Morgan in swipe at ITV and NTAs host Joel Dommett as he exits awards show early | The Sun

PIERS Morgan has taken a swipe at his former employer ITV before a cheeky dig at the NTAs and host Joel Dommett.

The Talk TV firebrand, 58, was in devilish form on the red carpet at London's O2 last night where he vied to win the TV Interviews gong.

When asked by The Sun how it felt to pip former show Good Morning Britain onto the shortlist, Piers said: "Obviously I don’t want to intrude into private grief but it feels good. It’s great to see a new show like ours, only 16 months old, that has got a nomination at the National Television Awards for our interviews which we think we do better than anyone else.

"Thank you, Meghan [Markle], once again – for getting me out of ITV and for getting me the nomination. I am very grateful."

Piers's GMB tenure famously came to an end after he clashed with co-star Alex Beresford live on air over his views about the Duchess of Sussex.

On the night, Piers, who braved a trip on the tube for the first time in 30 years to make it to the Greenwich venue, lost out to Graham Norton.

Piers' name was met by a chorus of cheers and boos when host Joel told the audience he was in attendance.

It prompted Joel to say, “Hey, everyone, say what you like about Piers Morgan…” before trailing off and turning his attention to Louis Theroux.

After the show, Piers gave a tongue in cheek overview of his evening, writing on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Got the Tube in searing heat.. got mocked by a host I’ve never heard of… got booed by an audience of shrieking banshees… got beaten by Graham bloody Norton.. and now getting the first limo I can find to get the hell outta here. Thanks for a great night ⁦@OfficialNTAs.”
