Jawara Alleyne's Secret SS24 Show Was a Nautical Fantasy
Since graduating from Lulu Kennedy‘s Fashion East, Jamaican designer Jawara Alleyne has worked tirelessly to cement herself in the UK fashion landscape, expanding her culture for island and city inhabitants. Alleyne secretly closed London Fashion Week, staging an intimate showcase in East London.
The event was limited to 50 attendees excited to see Alleyne’s latest creations, revealing her Spring/Summer 2024 “Beach Business” collection inspired by Caymanian youth. Considering her brother’s musical journey, the island’s unique creativity was projected into a rebellious offering for seaside meetings. “Beach Island Streetwear” is evaluated through layered ensembles pinned with metallic hinges, while nautical striped tops boast folded collars paired with belt-tied speedos.
Daily island workers are reflected across traditional polo shirts rounded to create a sensual shape, complemented by ruffled skirts with gilded florals. Armour-like tops are pulled together by circular gold plaques, channeling water-bound fishermen into frayed shorts with pinstriped detailing.
Tethered lifebuoys are discolored on dismantled T-shirts, seeing tie-dye versions bloom beneath pastel purple nylon vests. The SS24 collection is brought to a close with rib-cutout knitwear, bold and sheer gowns, and structural headgear.
